BOYS WATER POLO

Rank, school, season record

1. Newport Harbor (0-0): The reigning CIF-SS Open Division champion looks deep with the expected return of Connor Ohl and Kai Kaneko. The Stanford commits played for the U.S. national team over the summer. Left-handed attacker Mason Netzer, who is committed to Cal, is another senior to watch.

2. JSerra (0-0): Harvard committed goalie Jonas Ransford and attacker Connor Colman — both seniors — lead a team stocked with younger players. Coach Brett Ormsby is high on his sophomore class, which includes a few transfers, and freshman Chris Koo.

3. Corona del Mar (1-0): Sea Kings coach Lucas Reynolds believes his team will be better than last season when it reached the Open Division semifinals. One reason is the rise of William Weir, a junior utility player. The team has two senior centers in Nathan Simoncelli (USC commit) and Cooper Harlan.

4. Mater Dei (0-0): The Monarchs graduated some key players but the talent pool for new coach Erik Zimmerman includes attacker Asa Chen and goalie Morgan Crichton. Both players are juniors.

5. Santa Margarita (1-0): New coach Ivan Buich, formerly of USC and San Juan Hills, takes over a team led by sharp-shooter Evan Wu and Logan McGann. The Eagles opened with a 15-8 victory against Crean Lutheran.

6. San Juan Hills (1-0): The Stallions blend experience and youth with a roster paced by senior Charles Montano and sophomore Owen Clark. The eligibility of sophomore center Liam Friedman, a transfer from JSerra, is a storyline to watch.

7. Beckman (2-0): The Patriots are young but talented with freshman Drake Hamilton, sophomore Jun Kim and senior Parsa Tamadon leading the way. Beckman has posted wins against Huntington Beach (14-10) and Los Alamitos (15-10).

8. Huntington Beach (0-1): Second-year coach Nick Graffis features a senior trio in Jacob Duong, Issac Squires and Dane Driscoll.

9. Laguna Beach (0-0): The Breakers look like the favorite in the Pacific Coast League with several returners, including captain Gavin Goode and goalie Max Jakel.

10T. Los Alamitos (0-1): Second-year coach Rob Grayeli has his own senior trio in Sebastian Mok, Noah Garrison and Nathan Jorge.

10T. Foothill (0-0): The defending Crestview League champion returns one all-league player in John Bergstedt. The Navy commit scored four goals against Newport Harbor last season.

Also considered: Aliso Niguel, Capistrano Valley, Crean Lutheran, San Clemente
