Free fun things to do on Labor Day weekend

Yes, it’s the final weekend of the official summer season, so let’s get out there and have some fun. And, no, it doesn’t have to cost you an arm and a leg. Here are things you can do that cost nothing at all!

Long Beach: The band Tijuana Dogs will headline a Farewell to Summer Concert from 6 to 8 p.m. Aug. 29 at Marine Stadium, 5255 Paoli Way. Bring lawn chairs, picnic and a blanket.

Long Beach: The Shoreline Village Concert Series summer ends this weekend at the Off Boardwalk Theater near the Funnel House. The Natasha Remi Band will perform from 1 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 30, with JLB Musica (rock in Spanish) following from 6 to 10 p.m. Catfish and Hollywood Hound Dogs will play blues from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 31. In the Red will perform a set of pop and rock tunes from 1 to 5 p.m. Monday, Sept. 1. All performances are at 429 Shoreline Village Drive. Los Angeles: It’s the last weekend of the Griffith Park Free Shakespeare Festival. This month’s selection is Christopher Marlowe’s “Doctor Faustus” written around 1590. It deals with the devil, so it might be scary for some kids. The show starts at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 29, Saturday, Aug. 30 and Sunday, Aug. 31. Orange: The Orange International Street Fair takes place Friday through Sunday in the city’s Old Towne area.  This free street fair in Old Towne Orange has been running every Labor Day weekend since 1973 and it’s quite a thing, so prepare to hunt for parking.  Entertainment on seven stages, arts and crafts, kids fun, 15 international food streets. The festival is the blocks surrounding the plaza. Hours are 5-10 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m.-10 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. orangestreetfair.org

Redlands: The Labor Day Summer Music Fest will feature concerts on Friday, Saturday and Monday. Erin O’Neill performs from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 29 at Mountain Grove Food Court, 27511 San Bernardino Ave. Saint will perform at the food court at 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 31. Woody & the Harrelsons will play from noon to 2 p.m. Monday, Sept.1 at the Citrus Plaza Food Court, 27510 Lugonia Ave.. Sponsored by Mountain Grove and Citrus Plaza Shopping Centers. Saturday, Aug. 30

Santa Ana: Dance your booty off at the KCRW Summer Nights event, 7-10 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 30 at the Bowers Museum. This free party includes DJs, pop-up bars, kid stuff and more. Santa Clarita: The city’s Concerts in the Park series wraps up with an extended finale show featuring three bands. Dark Desert Highway, an Eagles tribute, plays at 4 p.m. A Dustland Fairytale, a tribute to The Killers, takes the stage at 5:30 and PettyBreakers, a Tom Petty tribute, closes things out at 7. Laguna Beach: Take a family hike at the James Dilley Preserve from 3 to 5 p.m. This is an easy 2.5-mile family hike at Laguna Coast Wilderness Park to Barbara’s Lake and back. There’s uneven terrain and 45 foot elevation gain. Wear closed-toed shoes, a hat and  bring plenty of water. For ages 6 and up, and kids need a parent or guardian with them. Riverside: Enjoy Free Summer Sundays  at the Riverside Art Museum + The Cheech Marin Center for Chicano Art & Culture. Noon to 5 p.m. Enjoy the art at both museums for free. Please RSVP.  riversideartmuseum.org. 3425 Mission Inn Ave., Riverside.
