A 66-year-old Pomona man is dead and now his caretaker has been charged in his killing, police said.
On Monday, 42-year-old Paul Jonathan Donell of Pomona was arrested and charged in the death of Ollie Johnson, a man whom was entrusted to Donell’s care.
Prior to his arrest, Pomona police officers were dispatched to a home on the 700 block of N. East End Avenue for a report of a man that had fallen in the tub and needed CPR.
Police and paramedics arrived on scene to find Johnson “unresponsive for some time.” He was pronounced deceased at the scene.
While at the home, police became suspicious of the real cause of Johnson’s death, saying he had “injuries inconsistent with the explanation given by his caretaker.”
An investigation was launched and Donell was later arrested and charged with Johnson’s murder, as well as charges for abuse of a dependent adult resulting in death.
The investigation remains ongoing and anyone with information is urged to contact the Pomona Police Department at 909-622-1241. Anonymous tips can be provided online or by calling 800-222-8477.
