Long-awaited cooling trend arrives this week for Southern California

An extended spell of hot weather is finally coming to an end this week in Southern California — at least for a few days.

An area of low pressure is currently working its way into the northern part of the state, KTLA’s Kirk Hawkins said Monday morning.

“That will eventually make its way to Southern California, creating some cooler temperatures, some onshore flow, and changing up our forecast just a little bit for the bulk of the next five days,” Kirk said.

The cooling trend is expected to arrive on Tuesday, with the more fall-like conditions continuing through Friday.

“In addition, marine layer clouds will expand across coastal areas and well inland over the valleys,” the National Weather Service (NWS) stated.

Afternoon highs for downtown Los Angeles are forecast to drop from 86 degrees on Monday to 76 degrees on Wednesday and Thursday. Highs in the San Fernando Valley are also expected to fall from the 90s to the mid-80s by the middle of the week.

The cooler conditions won’t last long, though. The NWS is calling for a small warming trend to return on Friday and into the weekend.
