Angels Minor League outfielder Rio Foster is in critical condition after suffering serious injuries in a car crash last week in Washington state.
Foster, who was just named the Northwest League Player of the Month with High-A Tri-City on Thursday, was a passenger in the vehicle, MLB.com reported.
“Earlier today, the Angels Organization learned that Rio Foster, a member of our Tri-City affiliate, was a passenger in a serious car accident in Richland, WA,” a statement issued by the Angels on Friday read. “Rio is currently receiving medical care at a local hospital and remains in critical condition. We ask that the entire Angels Community joins our Organization in keeping Rio and his family in their hearts during this difficult time.”

Further details about the crash were provided on a GoFundMe page to help Foster and his family with medical costs.
“Rio was ejected from the vehicle and suffers from a traumatic brain injury along with skull and facial fractures and remains in critical condition, although he is stable,” the organizer of the page said.
Foster had also undergone brain surgery and will need further procedures as well as physical therapy, according to the post.
“Rio is the most humble, kind and respectful young man and this is the most unfortunate circumstance,” the organizer wrote.
The Angels selected Foster, 22, in the 16th round of the 2023 MLB draft.
