Runaway tortoise found wandering streets of L.A. County coastal city

A runaway reptile was captured and taken into custody by police in Palos Verdes Estates Tuesday morning, and now an effort is underway to connect the animal with its owners.

According to the Palos Verdes Estates Police Department, a “friendly tortoise” was found wandering along the 2500 block of Via Olivera in the wealthy coastal enclave.

In photos shared by the Police Department, the large adult tortoise was seen loaded in the back of a truck with a promise that he or she was “safe and sound” with officers.
