A man suspected in several prowling and peeping incidents in Santa Monica was arrested last week by members of the Santa Monica Police Department.
On Sept. 3, officers conducting a crime suppression operation in Palisades Park contacted a man who they say matched the description of the suspect in multiple prowling investigations in the region over the past several months.
He was arrested without incident shortly after he entered a parked vehicle. A search of that vehicle led to the discovery of clothing items believed to be linked to previous prowling incidents, police said.
He’s been identified as 58-year-old Calvin Otis Arnold, and he’s since been booked into the Santa Monica Jail where he remains as he awaits.
Investigators from the Police Department say they’ve linked Arnold to multiple instances in which he allegedly looked through the window of an apartment complex. At least two people were targeted on more than one occasion, police said.
Police say there is no evidence that he’s ever entered a home or made physical contact with any victims.
Over the past month, specially trained officers have conducted operations meant to locate and identify the man responsible for these invasive crimes, which ultimately led to his arrest last week.
The investigation remains ongoing and anyone with information is urged to contact the SMPD non-emergency line at 310-458-8491. Santa Monica residents can also sign up for a free home security assessment by calling the Community Engagement Team at 310-458-8474.
