The Anaheim Public Library Foundation has sponsored a special event, Spinal Dread – Horror Literature and Culture Festival.
“Step into the darkest corners of literature, pop culture, and more from vendors, workshops, and panels,” organizers urge.
There will be ghoulish cosplay, trivia, books signings and more
Mark your calendars and don’t miss the Sept. 27 festival at Central Library. The event is free and will be 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information, visit anaheim.net/library.
Also, the Friends of the Anaheim Public Library will host a book sale from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sept. 19 at the Central Library, 500 W. Broadway. It will be in the basement.
In addition to books for sale, there will be jewelry, curios, knick-knacks, puzzles and more available. For more information, call the Central Library information desk.
Health fair will offer free services
The city of Anaheim will be hosting a free health fair this month.
The event on Sept. 20 will offer residents and others access to medical, dental, vision and women’s health services at no cost. No insurance or proof of citizenship is required, and all participation is confidential. Register and learn more at Anaheim.net/HealthFair.
The fair will be 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Anaheim Convention Center.
Miss Anaheim program is looking for participants
The Miss Anaheim Beautiful Scholarship Program 2025-26 is taking applications and has extended the deadline until Sept. 14
The program is not a typical beauty pageant or a one-time scholarship. It is a year-long commitment to participate in personal growth and development that includes an education scholarship. There is community service, public speaking and more.
The pageant has been rescheduled for Oct. 12. Reach out to the program at missanaheimbeautiful@gmail.com for questions.
The organizers will need the contestant’s first and last name, the school and grade the contestant is attending in the fall, home address including ZIP code, email and cell number. They also want to know where you heard about the program. The application will be emailed to those reaching out for information.

Downtown cafe hosting poetry event
A new Coffee & Poetry is being launched at K & A Downtown Café.
Every cup will come with a story at the event at 10 a.m. on Sept. 21. Join the group for fresh brews, local poets and unforgettable vibes.

The Chance finishes its 2025 season
The Chance Theater will present “What the Constitution Means to Me,” the final production of its 2025 season.
The play is a Pulitzer Prize finalist and winner of Best American Play from the New York Drama Critics’ Circle. The production will run Oct. 3-26 at the Cripe Stage of Bette Aitken theater arts Center.

Witness Anaheim Confidential 2025
The public is invited to Anaheim Confidential, a fundraiser for Cops 4 Kids.
An Anaheim Police Department detective will recount the true story of a crime for audiences at the Oct. 3 event. Tickets on sale now at Auctria.com. General ticket purchase includes food, wine, beer, parking and presentation.
The event will be at the River Arena, 201 E. Broadway.
Paint with the Ebell Club
The Ebell Club of Anaheim is offering a Wine & Paint day.
A professional artist will guide participants in creating their painting. Cost is $45 per person and includes a glass of wine, appetizers and all painting supplies.
