The post office at 333 W. Broadway in Anaheim now officially honors Dr. William Kott, paying homage to a decorated World War II veteran and longtime community servant.
With the dedication of the post office, and a black and white plaque that boasts its new name, the Anaheim facility was renamed on Friday morning, Sept. 12, the Dr. William Kott Post Office.
It honors Kott, who served as a combat soldier and fought in the Battle of the Bulge as part of General George Patton’s 3rd Army. He also helped liberate survivors at the Buchenwald concentration camp. Kott died in 2020 at the age of 97.
The effort was spearheaded by Rep. Lou Correa, D-Santa Ana, who was on hand for the dedication Friday. The legislation was signed by President Joe Biden in 2024.
Kott’s military service awards included two Bronze Battle Stars, the European–African–Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, the World War ll Victory Medal and more. He enlisted in the Army and finished with the rank of sergeant, Paul Kott, his son, has said.
Following the war, he married and settled in California and became a dentist. After being a general dentist in Anaheim for 17 years, his son said he went back to school at the University of the Pacific’s dentistry school in San Francisco and got a degree in maxillofacial surgery.
And then at age 60, he went to medical school and became a doctor. He practiced until he was 89.
The late Kott was involved in local Republican politics and served a term on the Anaheim City Council.
