Over 20 suspects rob San Ramon jewelry store, steal $1 million worth of merchandise

SAN RAMON, Calif. (KRON) — A jewelry store in San Ramon was victim to an armed robbery Monday afternoon, according to the San Ramon Police Department (SRPD). At 1:50 p.m., officers responded to a “take-over style armed robbery” at Heller Jewelers at the City Center Bishop Ranch shopping center.

Suspects got away with approximately $1 million worth of jewelry, according to SRPD.

Police said approximately 20 masked individuals “entered the store and began smashing display cases, taking numerous items.” Some of them were armed, and multiple shots were fired at the front entrance. SRPD said the shots were fired to “shatter the glass entry doors so they (suspects) could flee.”

As of Tuesday afternoon, the number of suspects has been upgraded to approximately 25, per SRPD.

No one was injured, and there is no current threat to the public, according to SRPD.

The suspects escaped by fleeing in multiple cars waiting outside at the shopping center’s valet parking area, SRPD said. Officers initially pursued the suspects but ended the pursuit due to public safety concerns.

There have been seven arrests made in connection to the robbery. According to SRPD, all seven suspects are from Oakland, six men and one male juvenile.
