UC police find firearm, drugs after brief pursuit near campus

A short chase near a Southern California college campus ended with officers finding drugs, a firearm and a large-capacity magazine, police said Tuesday.

The incident took place on Sept. 22 when patrol officers attempted a traffic stop on Watkins Drive and Valencia Hill Drive near the U.C. Riverside campus.

Two people were inside the vehicle, which did not pull over, leading to what police described as a brief pursuit. The driver eventually came to a stop and both occupants were detained, the University of California Police Department, Riverside posted on Facebook.

“During the investigation, officers recovered drugs, paraphernalia, a firearm, a large-capacity magazine, and ammunition,” police said.

Police also discovered that the passenger was a convicted felon with prior drug and weapons violations.
