Anaheim Hills briefs: Canyon Hills Library to help kids get ready for Halloween

A “DIY Your Halloween” event, sponsored by the Friends of Canyon Hills Library starts this week at the library branch and will continue every Friday afternoon throughout the month. All kids are encouraged to join the fun.

The weekly DIY Halloween series will teach kids how to make their own costumes and decorations prior to Halloween, with each week focusing on a different activity. Materials for this special event are provided. The class will be 3 to 4:30 p.m.

This Friday, kids will have the opportunity to make a costume; on Oct. 10, the focus is costume accessories; and then on Oct. 17, Halloween décor. All kids are invited to a fun Pumpkin Party on Oct. 24, where they will have the opportunity to wear their Halloween creations, paint pumpkins and enjoy treats.

Theater company takes new approach to the Constitution

Chance Theater’s production of “What the Constitution Means to Me” opens at 8 p.m. on Friday on the Cripe Stage at the Bette Aitken theater arts Center and runs through Oct. 26.

This production, written by Heidi Schreck, provides a compelling, moving and unexpectedly funny approach that breathes new life into the country’s most important document. Schreck utilizes insightful storytelling recalling her perspective as a college student competing in Constitutional debate competitions, combining both personal experience with legal history. A Pulitzer Prize finalist and Tony Award nominee, the New York Times heralds it as a “one of the must see shows this fall.”

The Chance Theater production is directed by its newest resident artist, Katie Chidester, featuring Aubrey Saverino as Heidi; resident artist Robert Foran as the Legionnaire and the theater’s former Speak Up artists Reya Shah and Maria Wang as the Debaters.

Gather happily with the Women’s Club

Members of the Anaheim Hills Women’s Club are planning a “Happy Gathering — Pumpkin Season” luncheon from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 15 at the Anaheim Hills Golf Course. All women in the community are invited.

Gavin Braun, a multi-talented crooner, will provide the afternoon entertainment featuring the smooth sounds from the Frank Sinatra era.

Learn more about a local Boy Scout Troop

Boy Scout Troop 538 will host an open house at 7 p.m. on Oct. 22 in the Fellowship Hall at Canyon Hills Presbyterian Church.

All boys ages 11 and older or those as early as fifth grade, are invited to attend and learn more about the spirit of scouting as well as Troop 538.

The BSA Troop 538, which was founded in 1975, is a scout-led troop offering opportunities in leadership, community involvement, fun group activities and adventurous outings such as campouts, backpacking and hikes, which foster learning essential life-skills.

Canyon Hills Presbyterian plans Halloween fun

Mark your calendars for a Halloween carnival and chili cookoff on Oct. 25 at Canyon Hills Presbyterian Church. The community is invited to attend.

This special event, sponsored by the church’s Children’s Ministries and Fellowship Committee, will take place from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall and on the church campus.

There will be many fun activities, game booths and a chili cookoff. Kids are encouraged to wear their Halloween costumes and the community is invited to enter the cookoff.
