Two teenage boys were arrested after allegedly breaking into a Camarillo charter school and causing thousands of dollars in damage, according to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded to University Preparation Charter School around 6:15 p.m. on Sept. 13 after a security alarm was triggered. They discovered multiple classrooms had been entered through locked windows and vandalized with fire extinguishers and other items. The damage was estimated at $3,700, officials said.
Investigators from the Sheriff’s Office used surveillance footage to identify two suspects, a 15-year-old boy from Oxnard and a 16-year-old from Camarillo.
A search warrant was executed Oct. 8 at one of the suspect’s homes on Gaucho Way in Oxnard, where deputies found additional evidence. Both teens were arrested that day on suspicion of burglary, felony vandalism and conspiracy to commit a crime.
They were cited and released to their parents under the direction of Ventura County Probation. The case has been submitted to the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office for further review.
The incident remains under investigation.
