A car that flipped over multiple times and sent debris flying damaged several businesses at a major Newport Beach intersection on Thursday, Oct. 16, authorities said.
At around 1:20 a.m., crews responded to a collision at MacArthur Boulevard and East Coast Highway. The car, traveling south on MacArthur, appeared to have cut the turn and struck the center divider, according to the Newport Beach Fire Department.

The impact caused the vehicle to flip several times before landing on the driver’s side. Crews found the car heavily damaged with debris scattered throughout the intersection, the department said.
Nearby businesses, including Golden Spoon, The Bungalow and El Ranchito, sustained damage from the scattered debris. The extent and costs of the damage were not immediately known.

The driver was transported to the hospital. Details regarding the driver’s condition were not available.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
The Newport Beach Police Department has been contacted for additional information.
