Former Pomona basketball coach, wife among victims of 10 Freeway crash

Clarence Nelson, a former assistant basketball coach at Pomona High School, and his wife, Lisa, have been identified by the school as two of the victims of Tuesday’s fiery multi-vehicle pileup in Ontario.

A Facebook post from Pomona High School appeared to confirm earlier social media rumblings from loved ones that Clarence and Lisa Nelson were among the three people who lost their lives when a tractor trailer driven by a 21-year-old man plowed into slow-moving traffic on the westbound side of the freeway.

The message posted by Pomona High School was brief, just a photo of Clarence Nelson giving an on-camera interview and a photo of local news coverage.

“RIP Coach Nelson and his wife. 🕊️ Prayers 🙏,” the caption reads.

It was not immediately clear when or for how long Nelson coached at the school. Few details are publicly available regarding his wife, Lisa.

The driver believed responsible for causing the multi-car pileup and fiery aftermath has been identified as Jashanpreet Singh of Yuba City.

Singh was arrested on scene and has since been booked into the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga to await charges for vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence of drugs.
