Orange County sheriff’s deputy accused of sexually assaulting female inmate

An Orange County sheriff’s deputy was arrested Wednesday, Oct. 29, on suspicion of sexually assaulting a female inmate earlier this year.

The inmate told jail staff on Oct. 15 that Deputy Leobardo Martinez Garcia assaulted her in March 2025 while she was in custody on a separate charge and getting medical care at a hospital, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.

Investigators corroborated information, gathered digital evidence and served multiple search warrants before Martinez Garcia’s arrest.

He was booked on suspicion of felony sexual battery and assault under the color of authority. Martinez Garcia posted bail and was released Oct. 30.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Department has placed Martinez Garcia on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

“The alleged criminal conduct of this deputy is a violation of the oath to serve and protect our community, particularly those entrusted to our care in the Orange County Jail,” said Orange County Sheriff Don Barnes in a statement. “I could not be more disappointed in the actions of Mr. Martinez Garcia.
