Anaheim briefs: Run4Sharks at South Junior High

South Junior High may be the Eagles, but an upcoming event on campus is all about the sharks.

The campus will be hosting the eighth annual Run4Sharks on Nov. 15 with a 5K and a fun run, plus an ocean health fair. It is the first year the event will be hosted in Anaheim and it aims to promote ocean awareness, while also supporting fitness.

South Junior High participates in the after-school Shark Stewards Ocean Academy program that teaches youth about ocean conservation and the role of sharks.

Explore the Native Art Festival

Don’t miss the Anaheim Public Library’s Native Art Festival this weekend at Founders’ Park.

This celebration of local art will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Nov. 8, and will feature live performances, shopping and food.

It is free to attend at Founders’ Park, 400 N. West St.

Don’t miss the Anaheim Ballet’s Nutcracker

This is the 39th season of the Anaheim Ballet’s Nutcracker, staged and choreographed by Artistic Director Sarma Lapenieks Rosenberg.

The ballet will be presented at The Grove of Anaheim, 2200 E. Katella Ave., at 7 p.m. on Nov. 28 and 29 and at 2 p.m. on Nov. 29.

You can also see the ballet at Don’s Celebrity Theatre at Riverside Resort, 1650 S. Cosino Drive, in Laughlin, Nevada, at 7 p.m. on Dec. 11, 12 and 13 and at 3 p.m. on Dec. 13 and 14.

Vintage doll sale coming up

The California Doll Collectors Sale is coming to Brookhurst Community Center on Nov. 9, beginning at 10 a.m.

There will be antique and vintage dolls, Barbies, toys, teddy bears and vintage holiday items for sale.

Admission is $5, parking is free. The community center is at 2271 W. Crescent Ave. If you wish to sell or attend, call Janice Young at 714-345-5797.

Congratulations to the 2025-26 Miss Anaheim Beautiful Court

The new Miss Anaheim Court was crowned on Oct. 12 and made its grand debut at the 102nd Anaheim Halloween parade on Oct. 25.

Miss Anaheim Beautiful is Sophia Prudencio from Savanna High School.  Anaheim Beautiful Senior Ambassadors are Samantha De Ande from Kennedy High, Emily Maldonado from Anaheim High and Elyana Ortiz from Western High. Anaheim Beautiful Teen Ambassador Alexa Vega is from Katella High.

The honorees were presented to the City Council on Nov. 4.  The ladies will spend the next year serving the community at a variety of events, festivals and activities throughout the year.

Sunkist Branch has November plans

On Nov. 15, at 2 p.m., the Sunkist Branch Library will be hosting a movie day. Families will enjoy a craft, treats and a popcorn bucket giveaway while supplies last.

On Nov. 21, from 4 to 5 p.m., children ages 13 and younger are invited to create glittery acorns, perfect for Thanksgiving decorating. They can also write notes of thanks.

Disposing of large bulky items

If you want to get rid of large items, such as couches, old appliances or electronics, the city of Anaheim provides residents with a free bulky item pickup service.

You may dispose of up to 20 items, three times a year.  Make a list of items, call Republic Services at 714-238-3300 and schedule a pickup appointment.

Place items for pickup no later than 7 a.m. on the scheduled collection day.

Monthly Founders Park tour coming up

Founders’ Park features the historic Mother Colony House and Woelke-Stoffel House and free tours are offered on the first Saturday of each month, from 9 a.m. to noon.

The city park, at 400 N. West St., also offers agricultural history of Anaheim with walkways and trails that lead visitors through recreated 19th century landscapes.

Free mulch and compost available

Compost and mulch are available to local residents through OC Waste & Recycling.

Supplies can be picked up from the Bee Canyon Greenery at the Frank R. Bowerman Landfill in Irvine, the Capistrano Greenery at the Prima Deschecha Landfill in San Juan Capistrano and the Valencia Greenery at Olinda Alpha Landfill in Brea.  Make an appointment at OCLandfills.com/compost to pick some up.

Plan to take a shovel and containers that you can fill on your own.
