Huntington Beach shooting suspect arrested, booked for murder

A 28-year-old Santa Ana man suspected in a fatal shooting in Huntington Beach over the weekend has been arrested and booked on suspicion of murder and probation violation, police said on Monday.

The Huntington Beach Police Department received a shots-fired call near Ash Lane and Mandrell Drive just before 2:30 p.m. on Sunday.

Responding officers found the victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, the police department said. The victim, described only as a man, was pronounced dead after being taken to a local trauma center. Police said the victim’s identity was being withheld pending family notification.

Investigators later identified 28-year-old Luis Angel Mireles as a person of interest and contacted him later Sunday evening.

“Based on interviews and evidence collected at the scene, Mireles was arrested and booked at the Huntington Beach City Jail for PC 187(a) – Murder and PC 1203.2 – Violation of Probation,” police posted Monday morning.

No possible motive for the shooting was provided. It was also unclear if the victim and the suspect may have known each other prior to the shooting.

Anyone in the area with surveillance video or further information was asked to call Detective Sergeant Anthony Pham at 714-878-5640. To remain anonymous, contact OC Crime Stoppers at 855-847-6227.
