Giving in OC: Community Action Partnership of Orange County connects the helpers with those in need

Helping others is good for you.

That’s not cliche, that’s science.

Two years ago, Harvard researchers published a study about the “Helper’s High,” showing how your brain churns up a burst of the feel-good chemical dopamine when you give something to somebody else.

So, consider this a chance to feel good. We’ll give suggestions every weekday until mid-December.

You’re welcome.

CHARITY NAME: Community Action Partnership of Orange County (CAP OC)

WHAT IT DOES: Broadly speaking, the mission at CAP OC is pretty simple: to end poverty. Specifically, the huge, Garden Grove-based nonprofit serves as a connector organization to dozens of programs that help people with immediate and long-term needs, everything from diapers for babies to meals for seniors. CAP OC also includes the Orange County Food Bank, which collects and distributes food for hundreds of food pantries around the county.

HOW TO GIVE: Visit CAP OC’s “volunteer hub” portal at capoc.org/volunteer/ or make a food drive pledge by going to capoc.org/food-drive/.
