Suspect in Stanton drive-by shooting of teen boys extradited from Vietnam to face murder and other charges

A suspect in a 2025 drive-by shooting targeting rival gang members that killed a 15-year-old boy and injured a 13-year-old boy in Stanton has been returned to the United States from Vietnam to face charges, the Orange County District Attorney’s Office announced Monday, Jan. 26.

The suspect, 21-year-old Quoc-Bao Viet Le, fled to Hong Kong and then Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam days after the July 2025 shooting and was returned to the United States on Jan. 21 and booked into the Orange County Jail, according to a criminal complaint filed against Le by the Orange County District Attorney’s office. The complaint indicates the Federal Bureau of Investigation believes Le fled to Vietnam to avoid consequences in the United States after the shooting.

Le is charged with one felony count of murder with premeditation and deliberation, one felony count of attempted murder with premeditation and deliberation, one felony count of conspiracy to commit murder and one felony count of shooting into an inhabited dwelling, stemming from the shooting that killed 15-year-old Samuel Vidal and injured a 13-year-old boy, according to the district attorney’s office. He faces 50 years to life if convicted on all counts.

Authorities allege five men met at a home in Garden Grove on July 5, 2025 to plan the shooting targeting rival gang members. The men got into a black Mercedes-Benz, obscured the license plate and drove to Stanton just before 2 p.m., donning masks, the district attorney’s office said.

They confronted Vidal, a San Bernardino resident, and his friend, at the 11000 block of Court Street, with one man exiting the car and shooting at the two boys, while another man, later identified by authorities as Le, shot at them from the passenger seat. Vidal was struck five times and bullets hit his heart, lung, liver and pancreas. He died of his injuries. The 13-year-old boy was struck in his chest and survived.

The FBI, with assistance from the Orange County Sheriff’s Department and the Orange County District Attorney’s Office Organized Crime Unit, has been searching for Le since October.

The second suspected shooter is 24-year-old Danny Huynh, who is in jail in Orange County, according to the district attorney’s office. 21-year-old Troy Quang Lu is accused of being the getaway driver and is also in custody in Orange County after being arrested a few hours after the shooting and 20-year-old Ali Ibrahim Alsouqui is suspected of conspiracy to commit murder. Authorities say a fifth man who has not yet been identified was also involved.

Authorities believe Alsouqui fled to Jordan after the shooting and he remains at large.

Huynh and Lu have been charged with multiple felonies including murder and attempted murder, the District Attorney’s Office said.

Law enforcement tracked license plate readers until the Mercedes-Benz’s plate was not obscured and found that the car was registered to Lu, according to a criminal complaint. In addition to the plate readers, cellular site analysis and surveillance cameras helped law enforcement identify Le as a passenger in the car.
