Investigators arrested a man who was fighting with three teenagers in La Puente when a gunman shot dead one of the boys, authorities said.
The man, whose name had not been released, was taken into custody on Thursday, Feb. 5, sheriff’s Lt. Michael Modica said.
Detectives were still looking for the shooter.
Modica declined to reveal what started the fight, which erupted on a sidewalk on Orange Avenue, north of Amar Road, the night of Jan. 28.
The man fought with a 16-year-old and two other teens. The armed suspect walked up and shot the 16-year-old, the lieutenant said.
“We believe there’s prior history between everyone involved,” Modica said.
The medical examiner’s office had not yet publicly identified the teen who was killed. Modica said he lived in West Covina.
Detectives asked anyone with information about the shooting to call the Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500. Anonymous tipsters can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or go to lacrimestoppers.org.
