Two men were killed in separate shootings on Saturday, Feb. 7, Santa Ana police said.
The shootings happened hours apart at different locations, leaving a total of two men dead and two people injured, Santa Ana police said in a news release Sunday. Authorities said one of the shootings appears to be gang-related.
Officers responded around 11:10 p.m. to a shooting outside a house party in the 700 block of South Broadway. Upon arrival, they found three people with gunshot wounds in the roadway — a 41-year-old man, a 20-year-old man and a 37-year-old woman.
Orange County Fire Authority paramedics transported all three people to hospitals, where the 41-year-old man, later identified as Moises Rufino Gil-Benitez of Santa Ana, was pronounced dead. The other two victims are expected to survive.
Police said the motive remains under investigation, and detectives are working to identify additional witnesses.
In an earlier case Saturday, police responded to reports of a man shot near McFadden Avenue and South Graham Lane at around 3:48 p.m. Officers found a 39-year-old man, later identified as Rene Amriz of Santa Ana, suffering from gunshot wounds to his upper body.
Amriz was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Police said the shooting appears to be gang-related.
Santa Ana police are seeking information in both cases. They ask anyone with relevant information to contact the Santa Ana Police Department Homicide Section at 714-245-8390 or Orange County Crime Stoppers at 1-855-TIP-OCCS.
