Santa Margarita and Mater Dei’s girls soccer teams will play Saturday for a CIF Southern California Regional title and a trip to the inaugural CIF State championships.
The Trinity League rivals each won in the Division I regional semifinals on Thursday to advance to the final Saturday at Tesoro High at 3 p.m.
Top-seeded Santa Margarita defeated visiting Cleveland 3-0 in the semifinals behind goals by Felicity Nguyen, freshman Carys Fry and Riley Neves.
No. 2 Mater Dei beat visiting Oaks Christian 2-0 on goals by Lucy Mendiola and Brook Thies.
Santa Margarita is 2-0-1 against Mater Dei this season. The Eagles went 1-0-1 against Monarchs in the Trinity League and posted a 3-0 triumph in the teams’ CIF-SS Open Division final last weekend.
The inaugural Division I state final is scheduled for March 14 at Natomas High in Sacramento at 5:30 p.m.
In the Northern California final on Saturday, Buchanan of Clovis plays at Bishop O’Dowd of Oakland at 5 p.m.
In another result Thursday, Segerstrom lost at Coachella Valley 4-1 in the Division IV semifinals.
