A pair of suspects are recovering after they were ejected from a vehicle they allegedly stole during a police pursuit in Riverside, authorities confirm.
According to the Riverside Police Department, officers found a stolen vehicle being driven in the area of Columbia Avenue and the 215 Freeway at about 11:30 p.m. Saturday.
After waiting for backup to arrive, officers attempted to perform a traffic stop on the vehicle occupied by two suspects, but the driver refused to pull over, initiating a pursuit that led to the 91 Freeway.
At one point, the driver exited the 91 at Madison Avenue and then attempted to reenter on the nearby on-ramp at a high rate of speed. The driver then lost control, hit a traffic signal box and careened off the on-ramp.
The vehicle ultimately settled in the parking lot of a 24 Hour Fitness.
Both occupants were ejected from the vehicle. They were transported to a local hospital.
The two suspects, who remain unidentified publicly, are in stable condition and are expected to survive. It’s not clear if they’ve been arrested as of Sunday morning.
No additional details were immediately made available. The California Highway Patrol is handling the traffic collision investigation.
