Newsom, local leaders unveil next phase for wildfire recovery

Gov. Gavin Newsom joined Los Angeles County leaders Monday to unveil a blueprint for the next phase of recovery after the deadly wildfires that broke out in January.

The plan outlines a four-month plan to identify community needs, prioritize rebuilding efforts, and maintain momentum throughout the next stage of recovery.

Newsom has also signed an executive order aimed at streamlining recovery efforts.

The order suspends certain state and local permitting requirements to accelerate home and school rebuilding, exempts homeowners from immediate solar installation mandates, and delays upcoming changes to the state building code that could impact reconstruction timelines.

To date, over 16,000 first responders and recovery personnel have participated in response and cleanup efforts.

State and federal agencies have approved more than $2.5 billion in small business assistance and distributed more than $140 million in individual disaster aid, according to Newsom’s office.
