Anaheim Hills briefs: Catch a free movie in the library’s cool space

Canyon Hills Library is featuring a summer movie series, Movie Friday, which is offering an enjoyable way to spend the afternoon, including a family-friendly movie and light refreshments.

The summer movie series is scheduled for Friday and on July 18. Movies begin at noon and end by 2 p.m., and are shown in the multi-purpose room at the Canyon Hills branch. There is no charge to attend.

There are several other fun events scheduled at both East Anaheim and Canyon Hills Library branches throughout the month.

East Anaheim has a Summerween (Halloween in July) event at 11 a.m. on July 16t, and another fun event, a stuffed animal Olympics, is scheduled for 11 a.m. on July 30 at the branch. These events include special themed guests, activities or crafts. For more information, call 714-765-3887.

An art class for adults starts at 1  p.m. on July 22 at the Canyon Hills Library. This is an opportunity to learn from Cal State Fullerton fine arts professor Marsha Judd.

The month concludes with a Harry Potter Birthday Bash at 2 p.m. on July 26 at the Canyon Hills branch. Kids can enjoy a magic show starring Christopher T. Magician and participate in various crafts and activities.

Women’s Connection still celebrating American independence

The Anaheim, Orange and Villa Park Women’s Connection will host an Independence Day-themed celebration during its  July 14 luncheon at the Black Gold Golf Club. And all women in the community are invited.

Doors open at 10:30 a.m. for socializing and shopping from onsite vendors with the luncheon and program following at 11:30 a.m. Talented singer, Armen Keuilian will provide the afternoon entertainment. Guest speaker Loretta Hughes will share insights on “Finding Peace and Joy in the Midst of Storms of Life.” The day concludes at 1:30 p.m.

Fancy Nancy tea party is this weekend

Don’t forget the Fancy Nancy Teddy Bear Tea Party happens from noon until 2 p.m. on July 12 at Canyon Hills Library.

All kids are invited to this special event that includes a “meet and greet” with Fancy Nancy illustrator Robin Preiss Glasser, who will provide special book readings, have various books for sale and will sign them that day. There will also be crafts and treats.

There is no charge to attend. Kids should bring along their stuffies and join the fun. This event is sponsored by Friends of Canyon Hills Library. For information, call 714-765-6444.

Learn more about the Ebell Club

Members of the Ebell Club of Canyon Hills will host their annual wine and cheese meeting and social under the stars on Aug. 4.

All women in the community interested in learning more about the nonprofit, philanthropic and social organization are welcome to attend the 5 p.m. meeting. This fun evening begins with a social time where guests have an opportunity to meet club members and learn more about the Ebell Club’s various philanthropic and social activities.

A light barbecue dinner will also be served prior to the short business meeting, which includes fundraising updates, planned programs and social events. Barbara Shaia is current club president.

Membership is open to all women in the community interested in fun, friendship and personally enriching programs as well as the community. Meetings are held at 10 a.m. on the first Monday of the month in the Fellowship Hall at Canyon Hills Presbyterian Church. The club does not meet in July. Membership co-chairs are Joyce Rogers and Sharon Woodward.

Share your special Anaheim memories

On July 24, the Ebell Club of Anaheim’s community enrichment section will host a special meeting from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the Ebell Clubhouse in Anaheim to spotlight Disney’s 70th anniversary and the community is invited to come share memories and thoughts of Disneyland.

Guests then have the opportunity to have those memories included in the Ebell Club’s newly launched 2025 Legacy Box project — which will be sealed until its opening in 2050.

In addition to memories of Disneyland, guests may also reflect on 2025 and any benchmark events such as five years since COVD hit; 20 years since Hurricane Katrina; 25 years in this century; 50 years since the fall of Saigon; 70 years since Disneyland; 80 years since the end of World War II; and 87 years since the dedication of the Ebell Clubhouse of Anaheim.
