A man is dead, another is hospitalized in critical condition, and a family member has been arrested following a violent altercation in Orange County.
According to the Garden Grove Police Department, on Monday, officers were dispatched to a home on the 13100 block of Yockey Street for a report of a shooting and two victims inside the home.
Officers made entry and found two men suffering from gunshot wounds. One was determined to be deceased, and the other was removed by officers on scene and transported to a local hospital with life-threatening wounds.
Details about the moments leading up to the deadly shooting are sparse, but police have arrested a third man for his alleged role. All three are family members, police said.
According to a news release issued Tuesday, 32-year-old Omar Molina, a resident of the home, was taken into custody.
Molina was allegedly in the home when the other two men became involved in a violent altercation. Molina, police say, heard gunshots from the other room, armed himself with his own firearm, and sought out his two family members.
Investigators are still working to determine what exactly happened, but it’s believed Molina ultimately shot and killed the man whose body was discovered by police. It is unclear if the second victim who was transported in critical condition was also wounded by Molina, or if he was attacked by the now-deceased man.
Police say there is no threat to the public, and the crime appears to be an isolated incident among family members.
“The exact nature of how things transpired, what caused the deadly altercation and the weapons used are still under investigation,” police said. “To protect the integrity of the investigation, no additional information will be released at this time. We ask for your patience as we try to determine the facts of the case [and] provide assistance to surviving family members.”
