‘Please don’t shoot me,’ suspect says in 911 call from ‘American Idol’ exec’s Encino home, document says

Los Angeles police seized jewelry, a semi-automatic handgun and other items from the home of a 22-year-old man around the time he was arrested on suspicion of killing an “American Idol” music supervisor and her husband in their Encino home earlier this month, according to court document recently made public.

Among the items seized from Raymond Boodarian and his Reseda home at the time of his arrest on July 15 were two smart watches, two necklaces, two bracelets, four rings, a pair of earrings, a semi-automatic pistol and magazine, ammunition, a cellphone, a baseball-style cap and a pair of black sandals, according to a search warrant served by Los Angeles police that same date.

It was unclear whether any of the items were stolen from the home of Robin Kaye and Thomas Deluca, both 70. They were found dead inside their home, in the 4700 block of White Oak Avenue, on July 14 after a friend asked police to check on the couple after not seeing or hearing from them for a few days.

The following day, along with an arrest warrant, police authored a search warrant requesting to search Boodarian’s Reseda town house in the 19000 block of Hamlin Street as well as any vehicles at the home. The latest in a series of search warrants offers a more defined timeline of some of the events that occurred the day of the murders.

Police believe the couple was shot on July 10 and that Boodarian used his own cellphone to place a 911 call from the home to tell a dispatcher that someone had broken into his home office, the document shows. He identified himself on the call as “Raymond Boodarian” and at one point, Boodarian allegedly said, “Please don’t shoot me.”

He entered the home through an unlocked door and was gone by the time police got there that day, LAPD has said, ABC7 reported: Officers didn’t see any signs of a break-in, even having a LAPD helicopter look down from above, and left.

A man wearing a black baseball hat, a gray shirt, dark pants and black sandals was captured on a surveillance camera climbing over a wall to get onto the property of the couple’s home about 4:05 p.m. on July 10, the document shows. Four minutes later, police received a call from a neighbor about a possible burglar.

Surveillance cameras also would show the couple returning home about 4:43 p.m. that day, the document shows.

Within minutes later, Boodarian placed the 911 call.

At 4:53 p.m., a man matching the description of Boodarian was seen on video leaving the home “as he concealed a handgun in his right rear waistband,” a detective wrote in the search-warrant document.

Detectives looked up data for Boodarian’s cellphone and found it was at the victims’ home when the 911 call was made, the document shows. The subscriber for the cellphone number used to make the 911 call was Boodarian, who had an address in Reseda, less than four miles from the couple’s home.

“Pings obtained after the incident indicated that the device was in the area of the (Reseda) address associated to Raymond Boodarian,” the court documents said. “A review of Boodarian records was unable to locate any nexis between Boodarian and the victims.”

Police have said Boodarian shot the couple with their own gun, but it was not known where that weapon was in the home.

Boodarian has been charged with two counts of murder and first-degree burglary. He is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 20, when he may enter a plea to the charges.

Kaye had worked on “American Idol” since 2009 “and was truly loved and respected by all who came in contact with her,” a spokesperson for the show has said in a statement. She worked in the music department on various Miss USA and Miss Universe pageants, the NAACP Image Awards and shows such as “Lip Sync Battle” and “The Singing Be” according to her IMDB profile.

Deluca was a rock musician and songwriter who wrote songs for artists including Kid Rock, Diesel and Micky Dolenz, according to his website bio on Melodic Rock Classics.
