The city of Anaheim’s Older Adult Program, in collaboration with Santiago Canyon College and the North OC Community College District, have several new personal interest programs for older active adults currently available at the East Anaheim Community Center.
A creative writing class is starting and will be offered 11:45 a.m. to 1:35 p.m. every Tuesday. This is a perfect opportunity to learn writing techniques.
Then, a healthy aging and wellness program will be offered on Mondays from 1 to 3 p.m., beginning Aug. 18. This program is led by a pharmacist and health and wellness coach who will provide information for enhancing physical, mental and social well-being for every stage of life. Join this program and learn ways that empower you to enjoy and improve your quality of life.
Tap into your artistic side at the class making jewelry, décor and more every Wednesday from 3 to 7 p.m., starting Aug. 20. Learn how to make beautiful jewelry, glass art and other decorative items. All supplies are provided.

Get lunch and help the Woman’s Club with its philanthropy
The Woman’s Club of Orange has a restaurant fundraiser scheduled for Aug. 13 at the Streamliner Lounge and Café in Orange. And the community is invited.
Located in the historic Santa Fe Train Depot, just outside the Orange Plaza, the restaurant offers a variety of food and drink items within a unique environment. To participate in this 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. fundraiser, email Linda Hicks at Hicks.Linda@rocketmail.com for a flyer or download one from the Woman’s Club website at womansclubororange.org and present it to the restaurant when ordering. The Woman’s Club will earn 20% of the proceeds from each lunch sale.
Money earned from the fundraiser will help support the club’s philanthropic projects, some of which include the Inspirational Young Woman Award, Orange Senior Center, Patriots and Paws and the Ronald McDonald’s House Charities.

Teens can get involved at local library branch
Canyon Hills Library is recruiting teen volunteers in grades nine through 12 to assist with various tasks within the library from September through December. Some of these include helping with library programs, shelving books and assisting patrons, and is a fun way to earn community service hours.
Teens interested should pick up an application from the library’s Information Desk and bring the completed application to the Fall Teen Orientation Meeting scheduled at 4 p.m. on Aug. 28 at the Canyon Hills branch.
Completed applications may also be emailed to Ms. Jenn at jdebaun@anaheim.net prior to the orientation, and anyone wanting additional information about the teen volunteer program should email her.
‘Longmire’ author hosts book club
If you enjoy reading mysteries, then you might be interested in joining the exciting new Walt Longmire Mystery Book Club at Canyon Hills Library from 1 to 2 p.m. on Aug. 16.
Join author Craig Johnson, who will lead the compelling discussion of his book “The Cold Dish.”
This new book club will meet every third Saturday of the month, featuring a book from the Walt Longmire series with Johnson. Those wishing to attend this event should register at the library’s Information Desk.

Watercolor, watch a movie at the community center
Whether you are a beginner or an intermediate in watercolor painting, you are invited to join a painting class to be offered from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Aug. 12 and 26 at the East Anaheim Community Center.
Come join instructor Sandy Wessel for a relaxing and creative watercolor painting class where you have the opportunity to learn how to create or improve your skills.
Classes are offered on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month. Contact Christine at 714-765-3912 for information and list of the necessary art supplies needed for the class.
Also, the East Anaheim Community Center is featuring a free movie day at 1 p.m. on Wednesday.
