California has secured a Fire Management Assistance Grant from FEMA to help battle the Canyon Fire burning in L.A. and Ventura counties.
As of Friday morning, Cal Fire shared that the blaze has burned approximately 4,856 acres since it erupted on Thursday afternoon near Holser Canyon, north of Piru. Officials confirmed that at least two minor structures, which were not believed to be homes, have been destroyed by the fire.
KTLA’s Erin Myers reported that containment moved up to 25% as of 10 a.m., with more than 400 personnel working overnight in steep terrain and hot, dry conditions.
The blaze has placed more than 4,300 residents under evacuation orders, and an additional 12,000 were put under evacuation warnings due to the blaze, according to the state’s Office of Emergency Services.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
