15-year-old girl stabbed to death in Costa Mesa; suspect arrested

A 15-year-old girl was stabbed to death in a gang-related attack in Costa Mesa on Saturday, and a 31-year-old suspect was later arrested at his Anaheim home.

Around 12:30 p.m. on Aug. 9, authorities responded to multiple 911 calls of a stabbing on the 700 block of Shalimar Drive, a residential neighborhood. When police and paramedics arrived, they found a teenage girl lying on the ground outside with a life-threatening stab wound, Costa Mesa police said.

Despite efforts to save her, the girl died from her injuries a few hours later.

Authorities later identified the victim as Allison Castillo from Costa Mesa.

Costa Mesa police detectives and gang-unit investigators said the stabbing was a gang-related attack. The suspect, 31-year-old Matthew Juarez, who authorities said is a suspected gang member, was arrested later that evening.

Police did not say whether the victim had any gang affiliation or what her relationship to the suspect was.

No additional information was immediately available.
