2 arrested in connection with dog attack that killed infant girl in Torrance last year

Torrance police have arrested two people wanted in connection with the death of a 1-month-old girl who was fatally bitten by a dog inside a home last fall, authorities announced on Friday, Aug. 29.

Genna Magliocco and Charles Womack were taken into custody on felony child-endangerment warrants, the Torrance Police Department announced. Detectives and community lead officers carried out the operation that led to the arrests, which were made without incident. Both suspects remain jailed while awaiting arraignment.

On Oct. 8, 2024, police and firefighters were summoned to the 2700 block of Martha Avenue, near 228th Street, in response to reports of an animal bite. Paramedics rushed the infant, later identified as Chevy Womack, to a hospital, where she died.

Police said the family’s dog attacked the baby inside the house. The mixed-breed dog and at least one other dog from the residence were removed by Torrance Animal Control. The circumstances that led to the attack were not immediately available.

As of early Saturday afternoon, authorities have not confirmed the relationship that Magliocco and Womack had to the baby.
