Two people were taken to a hospital in critical condition after being shot at Spartan College of Aeronautics and Technology in Inglewood on Friday, May 2.
The shooting occurred in the 8900 block of Aviation Boulevard, between Arbor Vitae Street and Hillcrest Boulevard, the Los Angeles County Fire Department said.
Sky5 footage showed officers and L.A. Fire Department crews responding to a building where the male suspect was reportedly barricaded inside before fleeing the campus, KTLA reported. The TV report he was a former employee of the college, according to authorities.
It was unclear what motivated the shooting, as multiple law enforcement agencies arrived at the scene to establish a perimeter to conduct separate investigations.
Initial reports indicated that the suspect was armed with a rifle, Inglewood Mayor James T. Butts said.
Butts confirmed that a 9mm shell casing was found at the scene and noted that DNA or fingerprint evidence may be present on it.
There was no distinct description of the suspect, although Butts described the person of interest as a man possibly wearing security guard attire.
