A woman moving her vehicle at a Long Beach apartment complex hit and fatally injured her 1-year-old child, police said.
The crash was reported about 6 p.m. Wednesday on the 5500 block of Ackerfield Avenue, according to the Long Beach Police Department.
“When officers arrived, Long Beach Fire Department personnel were already on scene providing medical aid to a 1-year-old child,” according to a police department news release. “The child was transported to a local hospital, where, despite lifesaving efforts by paramedics and medical staff, (they) succumbed to their injuries.”
According to preliminary findings, the child’s mother was moving her vehicle in a carport at an apartment complex and struck the toddler, who had wandered in front of the automobile.
Police do not suspect the mother was impaired or distracted when the apparent accident occurred.
