Erik Menendez denied parole by state panel

LOS ANGELES >> A state parole board panel Thursday rejected a bid for parole by Erik Menendez, who has served about 35 years behind bars along with his brother Lyle for the 1989 shotgun slayings of their parents in Beverly Hills.

Menendez, 54, and his brother Lyle, 57, had been serving life-without-parole prison terms, but they were resentenced in May to 50 years to life, automatically making them eligible for parole consideration because they were younger than 26 when the crime occurred.

Lyle Menendez will appear before a parole panel on Friday.
