A water main broke, damaging a home and some vehicles and creating a sinkhole in Fullerton on Sunday afternoon, Sept. 7.
Officials responded just before 1:10 p.m. to North Parks Road and Las Lanas Lane, where a water main break caused a geyser to shoot through the street, said Sgt. Chad Keen with the Fullerton Police Department.
The geyser and debris that it shot up damaged a nearby home and vehicles in its driveway and created a sinkhole approximately 10 feet in circumference, Keen said.
Fire department officials shut water off in the area. The shut-off is expected to impact about 10 to 15 households for six to 10 hours since the break was first reported, Keen said.
Resident Bin Lu told freelance news agency OC Hawk that crews have repaired pipes and valves on his street for leaks for years, but he said he hadn’t seen a water main break like the one on Sunday before.
City crews are in the area repairing the water main. The cause of the break remains under investigation.
