Man pleads not guilty to throwing concrete chunks at officers during Paramount immigration raid

A man who allegedly threw chunks of concrete at officers conducting an immigration enforcement operation in Paramount, and was added to the FBI’s “Most Wanted list”, pleaded not guilty Thursday to a federal charge.

Elpidio Reyna, 39, of Compton faces four felony counts of assault on a federal officer, court papers show.

A trial was tentatively set for Sept. 30 in L.A. federal court.

Reyna was taken into custody July 23 at the U.S.-Mexico border in a negotiated surrender, the FBI stated.

The defendant allegedly threw concrete rocks at law enforcement on June 7 on Alondra Boulevard, “injuring a federal officer and damaging government vehicles,” according to the FBI’s Los Angeles field office.

The FBI issued video and photographs taken of the assailant on June 7 and Reyna was identified shortly thereafter,” the FBI said in a statement. “When agents attempted to arrest Reyna, he was not located and agents developed information confirming that he fled to Mexico.”

Reyna was initially detained by authorities in the Mexican state of Sinaloa.

After agreeing to surrender, Reyna was arrested by FBI agents at the San Ysidro Port of Entry in San Diego County and brought to a downtown Los Angeles federal lockup.
