A 38-year-old high school choir teacher pleaded guilty Friday and was sentenced to one month in jail for sexually assaulting a 17-year-old student at Santa Ana High School.
Police were called to the school around 6 p.m. on Nov. 15 regarding a report of a student engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a teacher, police said. A then-17-year-old senior said he had been having sexual contact with his choir teacher for about six months, police said.
Yesenia Navarro Garcia pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor counts of oral copulation of an underage victim. As part of the plea deal, the charges were reduced from felonies.
Garcia, who had four days credit behind bars, was sentenced to 30 days in jail and a year of informal probation. She will also have to register as a sex offender, according to court records.
Garcia had been a full-time choir teacher for about five years at the school, police said.
