The Los Angeles-area power grid was running smoothly Thursday morning as temperatures soared on what is expected to be the hottest day of a multi-day heat wave.
No heat-related outages were being reported as of late morning by Southern California Edison or the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power.
The DWP reported that as of roughly 10 a.m., only one of its industrial customers was without power — due to a vehicle that struck a power pole.

According to SCE’s outage map, roughly 1,400 customers were being impacted by various maintenance-related outages across Los Angeles County, along with about 400 in Orange County.
Thursday was shaping up to be one of the hottest days of the summer and LADWP and Southern California Edison officials have been asking customers to conserve energy during the heat wave due to the strain on the power grid.
The California Independent System Operator, which manages the statewide power grid, had not issued any alerts or warnings about potential strain on the grid during the heat wave. Cal-ISO’s demand forecast for the day indicated the predicted statewide peak demand 43,132 megawatts statewide for Thursday was well within the current capacity of nearly 62,000 megawatts.
