Walt Disney Imagineering offered a behind-the-scenes tour of the Avengers Infinity Defense attraction under construction at Disney California Adventure as part of the $60 million Avengers Campus expansion project that will double the size of the Marvel themed land.

Disneyland filed an updated building permit with the city of Anaheim for the construction of a 110,000-square foot attraction building with restrooms, offices and an employee break room as part of the Avengers Campus expansion already under way at Disney California Adventure, according to Theme Park IQ.

The permit also calls for the construction of 3,400-square foot outdoor canopies and nine awnings.

The permit lists the value of the work at $60 million, according to MousePlanet.

Walt Disney Imagineering structural engineer Alanna Marshall offered a behind-the-scenes construction tour of the new Avengers Infinity Defense attraction in a video posted to YouTube.

Marshall showed viewers the structural supports of the building that handle gravity loads from the weight of the building and lateral loads due to seismic activity.

Construction began in January on the Avengers Campus expansion that will add the new Avengers Infinity Defense and Stark Flight Lab attractions to the Marvel super hero themed land.

The Avengers Infinity Defense dark ride will transport riders aboard a world-jumping spaceship to remote worlds and alternate realities throughout the Marvel multiverse utilizing a blend of large-scale built environments and immersive media.

The Stark Flight Lab attraction will be set inside Tony Stark’s workshop where riders will fly like Iron Man at the end of an auto factory-style robotic arm during a simulated flight.

Robert Downey Jr., who will play the supervillain Doctor Doom in new “Avengers: Doomsday” debuting in December, will reprise his role as Tony Stark/Iron Man for both new Avengers Campus attractions.

Disneyland has committed to spend $1.9 billion over the next decade as part of the DisneylandForward expansion plan and hopes to bring a big chunk of the $30 billion Disney has earmarked for theme park investment to Anaheim.
