Disneyland Expansion: “Coco” Ride, Marvel & Avatar – Opening Dates & Details

A recent Pixar announcement, quickly retracted, has sparked speculation about the opening timeline for Disneyland’s highly anticipated “Coco” ride. The initial reveal of “Coco 2” hitting theaters in 2029 suggests a potential deadline for the attraction’s completion at Disney California Adventure (DCA).

Disneyland has confirmed a “Coco” ride is in development, slated to begin construction in 2026, but an official opening date remains undisclosed. Many expected the ride to debut between 2027 and 2029, possibly within the DisneylandForward expansion area, where a “Coco” themed land has been teased.

The 2029 “Coco 2” release date, if accurate, creates a sense of urgency. Traditionally, Pixar launches its major films in June, making a summer 2029 release likely. This implies the “Coco” ride would need to be finished before then.

However, the “Coco” ride is not the only project in DCA’s pipeline. Two new Marvel attractions, Avengers Infinity Defense and Stark Flight Lab, are already under construction, with projected openings in 2026, 2027, or 2028. The exact order of these Marvel ride openings is still unknown, and Disneyland has not ruled out staggering their debuts.

Additionally, an “Avatar” themed land is in the planning stages for DCA, based on the “Avatar: The Way of Water” franchise. Such a large-scale project could take several years, potentially pushing its opening to 2028 or 2029, especially if the second Marvel ride precedes it. Alternatively, a standalone “Avatar” attraction might be completed earlier.

Considering these projects, the “Coco” ride could realistically open in 2027 or 2028, allowing Disneyland to promote it ahead of the “Coco 2” film release. The timeframe for the “Coco” ride’s completion depends on whether it will be a standalone attraction or part of a larger themed land, which would require more construction time.
