Yelp reviewers have named the top sandwich spots in America in the platform’s first-ever “Top 100 Sandwich Shops” list, released in honor of National Sandwich Month in August.
California made a strong showing, with 14 shops across the state earning spots on the list.
Leading the charge at No. 2 is Sierra Subs and Salads in Three Rivers, located near Sequoia National Park in Central California. Known for its “scratch-made” sandwiches and vegetarian-friendly menu, the shop serves a large percentage of meatless orders, according to owner Allison Millner.
“Our food is made from scratch and love,” Millner told Yelp. Fan favorites include “The Manwich,” a four-meat double-decker topped with olive tapenade, and “The Gourmet Green,” featuring turkey or grilled chicken with an almond-cilantro-jalapeño spread.
In Southern California, Woods Deli in Huntington Park earned the No. 5 spot. The deli specializes in handcrafted sandwiches served on locally baked pretzel buns and stands out not just for its food but for its mission.
“In this part of L.A., we’re the only deli within a 4-mile radius offering food that’s both clean and full of flavor,” owner Robert Valdez said. The shop also supports the community through food drives, clothing donations, and youth job training programs.
Super Subs in Banning ranked No. 10 for its popular Asian Sub — a fusion sandwich made with chicken, pickled cilantro, and a sweet-spicy house sauce. “The food is amazing, but chatting with the owners alone made this stop worthwhile,” one Yelp reviewer wrote.
Other California eateries featured on the Top 100 list include:
- Beyer Deli, San Diego (#12)
- Come On Over Cafe, Oceanside (#15)
- The Dutch Sandwich Shop, Temecula (#18)
- Aina’s Vegan Banh Mi, San Jose (#20)
- The McBoodery, Isleton (#24)
- Uncle Af’s, Agoura Hills (#27)
- Wild Carvery, Burbank (#30)
- The Lunch Spot, Palm Desert (#86)
- Ake’Larry, Anaheim (#87)
- Don Daisy’s, Glendale (#88)
- Windsor Brown’s, Anaheim (#89)
The No. 1 spot on the list went to Franky’s Deli Warehouse in Hialeah, Florida. The family-owned shop has served the community for more than 25 years, earning acclaim for its hospitality and made-to-order sandwiches.
Among its most popular items is the Famous Italian — a hot sandwich stacked with ham, capicola, salami and provolone. “It’s sweet, salty and zesty,” co-owner Nanette Diaz told Yelp. “Ninety-nine percent of customers order it hot, and the grill just meshes all the meats together.”
