2 arrested in gang-related stabbing in Fontana

Two Fontana men have been arrested in connection with a gang-related stabbing last month that left one person with life-threatening injuries, authorities said.

According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner Department, the attack happened around 12:45 a.m. on July 13 in the 15000 block of Athol Street in unincorporated Fontana. Investigators said the victim, whose identity has not been released, was walking in the area when they were confronted by rival gang members and stabbed multiple times.

Detectives from the Fontana Sheriff’s Station took over the case and determined the victim had been specifically targeted because of their affiliation with a rival gang. With assistance from the Fontana Police Department’s gang investigators, detectives identified 26-year-old Jayson Moran and 25-year-old Justin Meza, both Fontana residents, as suspects. Additional witnesses were also located during the investigation, officials said.

On Aug. 7, investigators from the Fontana Sheriff’s Station, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Specialized Enforcement Division, and the Gangs/Narcotics Division served multiple search warrants in Fontana and Colton.

Authorities said Moran and Meza were taken into custody during the searches. Detectives also recovered three firearms, ammunition, several high-capacity magazines, a stolen motorcycle, and gang paraphernalia.

Both suspects were booked into a San Bernardino County jail on suspicion of attempted murder and participating in a criminal street gang. They are each being held on $1 million bail, according to officials.
