California is the best state to be a cop, study finds

Those interested in law enforcement should put the Golden State at the top of their list of places to work, according to a new study.

A study from WalletHub has named California as the best state to be a police officer in.

That conclusion was reached through the comparison of 30 different factors throughout the 50 states and Washington DC. Those factors ranged from median pay to police safety to training requirements and job opportunities.

The study credited California’s training requirements, finding that it requires the second-most field training in the nation. It also praised the state’s de-escalation training, leading to a reduced chance of shootings and fatal incidents.

The median annual wage for law enforcement officers is $85,600, good for third in the nation, even after adjusting for cost of living.

California was tied for first with DC and Alaska for police protection spending per capita.
