Elderly couple killed in Ventura County crash

An elderly couple died Tuesday afternoon after they were involved in a two-vehicle crash in Thousand Oaks.

Around 4 p.m. Tuesday, two vehicles collided at the intersection of Via Las Brisas and Calle Del Prado.

One of the vehicles spun out, while the other traveled another 250 feet before stopping, according to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office.

Paramedics and firefighters responded to the scene to find the driver of one vehicle suffering from minor injuries, while the driver and passenger in the other vehicle suffered injuries that were considered significant.

Those two, a 77-year-old man and 73-year-old woman, were late pronounced dead from their injuries. They’ve been identified as Alejandro and Maria Ramirez of Newbury Park.

The driver of the other vehicle declined medical transport at the scene, authorities said.

The exact circumstances leading up to the crash are unclear, and the Sheriff’s Office is urging anyone with information to come forward.
