Fall storm brings 1st snow to Southern California mountains

Tuesday’s strong storm brought a much-needed shot of rain to Southern California, but the system also brought the season’s first snowfall.

Video showed vehicles traveling on slick and snowy roads in the San Bernardino Mountains as snow levels fell to around the 7,000-foot mark.

The storm brought just under an inch of snow to the Big Bear area on Tuesday.

Fresh snow always brings visitors to the mountains, including two people who were seen trying out their remote control vehicle on the side of a highway.

The shower and snow activity has all but departed the area, although the National Weather Service (NWS) says a stray shower is possible on Wednesday.

Cooler-than-normal conditions will linger into Wednesday night as any remaining moisture moves out of the area.

“A light Santa Ana pattern will develop Thursday and Friday that will bring much warmer temperatures,” the NWS said.

The dry conditions are expected to continue into next week.
