An award-winning journalist and one of the most recognizable faces in Los Angeles local news will be joining the team at CNN.
Elex Michaelson, who just departed FOX 11 Los Angeles after several years behind the anchor’s desk, will be joining the network news organization as a weeknight anchor later this year.
Michaelson will remain in Los Angeles and will anchor CNN programming from its local news studio.
“I am so excited to join CNN and learn firsthand from some of the most talented journalists on the planet,” Michaelson said in a CNN press release. “I’m especially grateful that CNN is expanding its investment in my hometown as the West Coast houses so many global leaders in politics, entertainment, technology, sports and more.”
Michaelson left FOX 11 earlier this year after nearly a decade as the station’s evening co-anchor alongside Marla Tellez and Christine Devine. He also hosted and produced a regular political talk show called “The Issue Is with Elex Michaelson.”

In addition to the L.A. FOX station, Michaelson previously worked as a reporter at ABC 7. He also worked as a news anchor at the now-defunct news operation at XETV in San Diego.
A graduate of USC, Michaelson built his career on the issues affecting greater Los Angeles and Southern California, including wildfires, state politics and crime.
He expressed excitement about the opportunity to continue to work and report on the stories close to his home. “This is truly a dream job,” Michaelson said.
