A storm system brewing in the Pacific is expected to bring rain, gusty winds and possibly thunderstorms to Southern California on Thursday.
“For tomorrow … Moderate to heavy rainfall is possible, especially in the afternoon hours. We’re talking about some gusty winds, some thunderstorms, potential for hail. We’ve got a lot going on,” KTLA’s Kirk Hawkins said Wednesday morning.
The National Weather Service (NWS) called for rain totals to remain less than a third of an inch in most areas. However, forecasters said that “the threat of thunderstorms will bring at least an outside chance of brief heavy downpours, which will have to be monitored carefully.”
Snow levels with this chilly system are expected to fall between 4,000 and 5,000 feet. “Maybe an inch is possible, associated with this passing storm system,” Kirk said.

Gusty west winds forecast for Wednesday have prompted officials to issue a wind advisory for parts of Los Angeles and Ventura counties through 10 p.m.
The NWS predicts 20 to 30 mph winds with gusts up to 45 mph across many of L.A. County’s coastal, inland and high desert areas. Breezy to windy conditions are likely to continue through Thursday night.
Dry weather is expected to return Friday and continue through the weekend with significant warming bringing temperatures to well above normal by Saturday.
