Heat advisories are in place as Southern California prepares for at least two days of well-above-average temperatures.
High pressure over the region will remain in control the next few days, bringing “really hot temperatures tomorrow and Thursday,” KTLA’s Mark Kriski said in Tuesday’s forecast. Most areas are expected to have afternoon highs 5 to 10 degrees above normal.
The National Weather Service (NWS) called for temperatures between 95 and 104 degrees in parts of Riverside and San Bernardino counties, including the cities of Fontana, Corona, Moreno Valley, San Bernardino, Ontario, Riverside, and Rancho Cucamonga this week.
A heat advisory was issued for the region from 10 a.m. on Wednesday through 8 p.m. on Thursday. Downtown Los Angeles will remain under triple digits but is expected to reach 90 degrees on Thursday.
Weather officials reminded the public to take care of vulnerable populations, including newborns, children, the elderly and those with chronic illnesses, during periods of hot weather.
Breezy to windy afternoons expected later in the week will combine with the high temperatures to increase the risk of fire danger. “Elevated fire weather conditions will continue away from the coast with the potential for rapid fire growth with new fire starts,” the NWS stated.
As the high-pressure ridge breaks down over the weekend, the NWS says there is a small chance for monsoonal showers and thunderstorms this weekend or early next week.
Temperatures are expected to remain warm, but return to closer to normal this weekend.
