In a week of uncomfortable, above-average temperatures, Thursday is expected to be the hottest day across Southern California.
“Look at Palm Springs today, 118,” KTLA Meteorologist Henry DiCarlo said Thursday morning. “Today could be our hottest day we’ve had in a while.”
A high-pressure system building into the Four Corners region will keep the hottest temperatures away from the coast, which will be closer to normal thanks to a shallow marine layer, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).
Afternoon temperatures will approach advisory levels throughout Los Angeles County with afternoon highs 5 to 10 degrees above normal. Downtown Los Angeles will top out above 90 degrees.
A heat advisory has been issued for parts of Riverside, San Bernardino and Orange counties. The advisory will remain in place until 8 p.m. Friday for temperatures up to 106 degrees.
Some cooling is expected as we head into the weekend, but temperatures will to stay above normal for a while.
“Seven more days of this at least, with temperatures above the average,” Henry said.
